The homebuyer tax credit was signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 17, 2009. It provides an $8,000 credit for the purchase of a principal residence between January 1, 2009 and December 1, 2009. First-time home buyers or buyers who have not owned a home for at least three years will be able to benefit from this credit. The credit does not require repayment and can be claimed on the tax returns. If any credit amount remains unused, then the amount will be refunded as a check to the purchaser.
If you have been thinking of selling your home, now may be a good time to do so because additional buyers will be in the market!
