Colorado’s bioscience industry receives an economic boost

Colorado’s bioscience industry received a total of $13,825,000 in federal funding for a new interchange serving the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fitzsimons Life Science District located at I-225 and Colfax Avenue, in Aurora.

The Anschutz / Fitzsimons project contributed $3.5 billion dollars to Colorado’s economy in 2008. It currently employs 15,900 people, and is the home of the UC Denver health sciences operations, the UC Hospital, the Children’s Hospital, the new VA Hospital, and several other centers for health care, biomedical research and workforce development. 22,797 people visit the site daily, including patients, students, faculty, volunteers and visitors.

At completion, the project will be a $5.2 billion investment, consisting of approximately 18.5 million square feet and employing 44,569 people.
